The Worship Ministry facilitates a welcoming, meaningful, and faithful environment through music, prayer, and liturgy.
Worship is for everyone. To support accessibility to as many people as possible, we provide a hearing loop for anyone with T-coil activated hearing aids. We also live-stream our service for those who are unable to attend (links on our website home page).
And we believe that worship is for God’s children of all ages! We strive to provide meaningful worship that engages our young ones and elders all together.
Facilitating Worship Together
Lay members serve during worship as lectors (scripture readers), assisting ministers, ushers, acolytes, tech helpers, and communion servers. A brochure detailing these volunteer duties can be found near the sign-up sheets.
You might also share your creative gifts through liturgical arts, choir, and instrumental music.
Children
We offer a child-friendly sanctuary where kids can play quietly, color, or work on crafts.“Busy Bags” are available for infants and toddlers in a basket at the entrance of the sanctuary; worship is live-streamed into our nursery for caregivers who would like to step out with their infants or toddlers to receive the sermon in a stress-free environment.
Music
Emmaus is a community that loves our music! Our adult choir sings each Sunday and rehearses each Wednesday evening. Choir members are known for socializing after choir rehearsal; once a month, the “Emmaus Choir Beer Club” goes out for a festive beverage together. New members are always welcome to lend their voices! Contact Brent Anderson, our Choir Director to join.
Liturgy
When you worship with us, you will experience a traditional Lutheran liturgy. (Liturgy means “work of the people.”) The form of the liturgy has been shaped over hundreds of years and by millions of Christians, and it connects us to them all as we worship. The liturgy follows these four basic elements:
- Gathering: We gather together with song and prayer. We sing primarily from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship and All Creation Sings hymnals.
- Word: We hear the word of God in scripture and preaching, and we respond with affirmation or faith and in prayer.
- Communion: Each week, we partake of the sacrament of Holy Communion. At Emmaus we practice an open table, which means all are welcome; however, if you do not wish to partake, come forward with arms folded (like an “X”) across your chest to receive a blessing.
- Sending: We go forth to serve the Lord with a blessing and a song!
